Passing of Time
Tic Tac Tic Tac
Never stopping,
Always forward,
Always onward,
Never bowing.
Tic Tac Tic Tac
Never slowing,
Never speeding,
Evenly beating,
For every being.
Tic Tac Tic Tac
Whether slow or fast,
Time evenly passed,
Steady and sweet,
Marking each beat
of Earth’s tempo,
With all creatures in tow.
Tic Tac Tic Tac
Mind playing tricks, deceiving our senses,
Like a magician with temporal illusions.
Stress and worry, fatigue and strain
Hasten our steps toward the end,
While Earth moves on at its steady pace
In an eternal dance, never to cease.
Tic Tac Tic Tac
Long ago, astronomers pondered
The Earth’s rhythmic pulse.
Mathematicians discovered
A formula, suitable for an agenda.
Taming the pulse, inventors entered
With devices in hand.
Tic Tac Tic Tac
Clocks were born,
Adorning public walls.
Humans, the only species,
Power-driven by progress,
Dictating every move,
Pulling every strings
To shape the universe.
Tic Tac Tic Tac
Freedom long gone,
Supplanted by a crown
That we hold dear.
Our tyrannic master
In our pocket resides,
Reminder of our duties.
Tic Tac Tic Tac
For the sake of progress,
Gripping time’s device
in life’s merry dance,
We’re held in a trance
To win the race,
Not a second to waste.
Tic Tac
Tic Tac
Feet pounding,
Heart racing,
Time slipping.
Tic Tac
Tic Tac
Move on,
Push on,
Reach on.
Tic Tac
Tic Tac
Clock turning,
Eye darting,
Hours flying.
Tic Tac
Tic Tac
Run faster
Life fleeing,
Go farther.
Stumbling, slipping, sinking
Up again until, the ultimate stop:
Death!
The endgame:
When time laughs
At the absurdity
Of it all.
